 Movie Rating Blogpost- Mean Girls

Tells a story which holds the audience’s attention

Mean Girls is a very entertaining movie that keeps the audience’s attention from beginning to end. The story follows Cady Heron as she navigates the wild world of high school cliques, and it’s full of hilarious moments and drama. The plot is easy to understand and follow, and there’s never a dull moment. All in all, it’s a fun, hilarious, and relatable story about trying to fit in at high school and trying to figure out who you are. Score: 20/20 points, expert.

Demonstrates camera work and editing which enhances the story

The camera work and editing in Mean Girls are good, but nothing too special. Everything is filmed clearly, and the transitions between scenes are smooth. However, there aren’t any highly creative shots or editing tricks that could be considered unique. However, that doesn’t take away from the essence of the story. The focus is more on the characters and dialogue than on the camerawork. Score: 15/20 points, practitioner.

Contains dialogue, narration and/or background music which enhances the story

The dialogue in Mean Girls is definitely one of the best parts. The lines are iconic and memorable, ("You can’t sit with us!"), and they’ve become significant pop culture references. Cady’s narration helps explain her thoughts and feelings, which adds to the humor and drama of the story. The music also fits perfectly, setting the tone for different scenes, and helps convey the emotion of the scene. Score: 20/20 points, expert.

Has compelling and interesting actors

The actors in Mean Girls are incredible. Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron and Rachel McAdams as Regina George absolutely did amazing with their roles as high school girls. The cast has really fantastic chemistry, and you can really believe their characters and relationships. Even the supporting actors, like Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith) and Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners), add a lot to the story. A critique I have is that some of the minor characters could’ve been more developed, but in total, the cast is strong. 18/20 points, practitioner.

Total score: 73/80 points
