Initial Brainstorming/Story Boarding
Initial Brainstorming/Story Boarding
Scene 1-
This scene is an establishing shot of the hallway of the high school. The students are walking to class on a regular school day.
Scene 2-
This scene will act as the introduction for one of the protagonists. It will start with a tracking shot of the character as she walks to class. Things like her outfit, gait, and her position in the group all establish traits of her character. She will walk in the middle of her friends, talking while everyone looks at her.
Scene 3-
This Mastershot of Lira Stone serves as her introduction. In this scene, she is quietly doing her homework in the library, which is very in character for her.
Scene 4-
Full shots and medium shots with a pan movement capture the protagonist entering the library. More medium and over-the-shoulder shots show when the two characters in the scene meet and show the audience their “rivalry-like” dynamic. Later, an eyeline match directs the scene’s action from their conversation to their laptops, building suspense for the reveal of their results. The two characters are sat beside each other, and the camera captures their shocked expressions from over the laptop screens before cutting to black.
Priscilla enters the library and meets with Lyra. They end up on the topic of college admissions, where they proceed to open laptops to check their admission results. Before their results can be revealed, the clip ends with the characters’ reactions as they look at their screens, ending on a cliffhanger.
Paragraph on my group's brainstorming session: My group members Ariba, Michelle, Talia, and I had a long and thorough conversation about our idea for our skit about college rejection. Firstly, we wanted to create names that fit the characters' personalities. For example, the protagonist's name, Priscilla Humphrey, was chosen because we agreed it sounded like it belonged to a wealthy, spoiled mean girl- which is what her character is. The other protagonist's name, Lyra Stone, was chosen because it sounded like it would belong to a very humble, shy, yet smart and hardworking girl. Our second idea was we discussed filming locations and settled on our school since it would be easiest and most practical to film there. Finally, we discussed the plot point of how the characters would get their decision letters from an Ivy League and settled on the characters seeing their letters but the scene cutting there so the audience doesn't know if they get acceptance or rejection letters, leaving the audience on a cliffhanger.
